About the book

The dream that was Mars has become a nightmare for the children born there.

Asher roams the vast canyons of Mars in search of dying souls ready for digital reincarnation. But his strange profession has its perils. Those who fear the newborn clones have hunted Asher and his friends for years, claiming the lives of countless innocents, including his daughter.

Claudia hosts the two most popular shows on two worlds, exhausting herself to educate the children of Mars and risking her life to raise the morale of the entire population. But when one of her cohosts is brutally murdered, she’ll stop at nothing to avenge his death and make Mars safe again for everyone.

Across frozen deserts and over raging volcanoes, Asher and Claudia lead a group of scientists, clones, and bikers on a high-octane charge to end the first war on Mars.

Heirs of Mars follows the lives of six men and women (not all of them entirely human) from the dusty wind farms of the Valles Marineris to the shining city of New Troy, and from the ancient tunnels beneath the Noctis Labyrinth to the sandy highways where daredevils race on single-wheeled motorcycles for a fleeting glimpse of fame and freedom.

Genre: science fiction | action/adventure | cyberpunk | artificial intelligence | cloning | robotics | Mars

Bonus Content: This special edition also includes all three short stories from the collection Heirs of Mars: Preludes. These stories tells the tale of the origins of cybernetic life orbiting Venus, the future of life on Earth, and the details of the attack on Asher Radescu that begins the novel on Mars.

Been following your site and work for awhile. recently bought your book “Heirs of Mars” from Barnes & Noble.
Just today, I stumbled upon this page offering the book for free.

That’s ok. I’m about half way through the story and it is already well worth the money. I’ll be sure to post a good review and tell all my friends about your work.

    Hi Joe-
Read about your book “Heirs of Mars” on LibraryThing.com and was hoping I could get a copy in mobi format for my kindle. I’m a big sci fi fan and will post reviews once I have finished the book. It looks like it is the first in several. Sounds interesting! thanks, Reed

An “heir” is a person who receives (Inherits) a dead person’s possessions. Children are usually the heirs of their parents.

In the book, the heirs of Mars are the various groups who inherit the world of Mars from the earlier generations of explorers. The heirs, the second and third generations, suffer for their parents’ mistakes and decisions. The novel explores who might ultimately survive to inherit the planet Mars.

Hi Shawn, I’m glad to hear you liked Heirs of Mars. I do have plans for two sequels, but I’m currently working on my historical fantasy series and it may be a little while before I get back to Mars. Although, if there was a sudden surge of interest in Mars, I might be persuaded to get back to it sooner (wink, wink).

Thank you so much! I’ve actually just started working with a professional artist, so future covers will be even better. There are a lot of talented people out there who can help make a book beautiful.

I’ll be honest, I don’t see how your “Heirs of Mars” covers can get any better. Are you saying you did those yourself?! Wow. I’m not too crazy about “Dragons and Lotus”, but even that isn’t bad. I do a fair amount of work having to choose cover designs, and yours are *very* good. (“The Lost Airship” is also very nice, as well as “Preludes”. I really like that three planet image.)

I did all of my current covers in Photoshop, except for The Dragon and the Lotus, which is my first illustrated cover by my artist. He’s currently developing new covers for my Halcyon books, and he’ll be doing my new covers next year as well.

I’m checking out your blog as well. As a Buddhist soloist, I may need to read No River to Cross. Thanks!

If the writing thing doesn’t work out, I think I might have a line on another career for you!
I was looking at your covers, and wondering if you could do non-fiction covers as well, when it occured to me that I have to get to work and actually produce something new that needs a cover.^-^ s
